My last day in Balgue was spent packing in the morning and with the sewing co-op in the afternoon. I will miss those amazing women. But I leave knowing that they will continue on and are in good hands. For the next few months Noelle, a peace corps volunteer and an intern from the farm will continue working with the woman. Noelle has been an inspiration to work with these past months. Pictures left to right: Maria Consepcion, Claudia, Yessali, Noelle or myself. We are showing off the newest batch of aprons the women have made.
Girasol is a women's sewing cooperative located in Balgue, Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua. The women work in design, production and repair to promote job creation and income generation opportunities for themselves, their families and their community.
I would like to give a shout out to this awesome blog post which was written about the women by a visiting sf native. http://teryllhopper.com/2013/03/08/meet-the-sunflowers/
