Day 177 Ghosts

"To understand the living on Nicaragua I found it was necessary to begin with the dead. The country was full of ghosts. Sandino Vive, a wall shouted at me the moment I arrived."
-Salman Rushdie

Augusto Nicolás Calderón Sandino; was a Nicaraguan revolutionary and leader of a rebellion between 1927 and 1933 against the U.S. military occupation of Nicaragua. He became a symbol of resistance to United States' domination. Sandino's political legacy was claimed by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), which finally overthrew the Somoza government in 1979. Here is some of the political street art commemorating Sandino.
